FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) men's soccer capped off their senior night with a 4-3 win over visiting Goshen College on Saturday, October 25.
Before the start of Saturday night's contest, the Coguars honored its senior class with a short, on-field ceremony.
The Cougars set the tone early, striking twice in the first half. Christian Walter opened the scoring in the 23rd minute with an unassisted strike before Henning Bundschuh doubled the lead just six minutes later off a penalty kick. Saint Francis's defense held the Maple Leafs to just two shots as the Cougars went into halftime up 2-0.
Goshen stormed out of the break with a goal in the 49th minute to cut SF's lead to one. Ryusei Matsushita responded in the 56th to restore the two-goal advantage. Saint Francis kept rolling as Joshua Jelany added his fourth goal of the season in the 74th minute, pushing the Cougars ahead 4–1. The Maple Leafs continued to battle, cutting into the lead with goals in the 74th and 89th minutes, but SF goalkeeper Kevin Wachiaya Onelius held strong, turning away 8 shots to secure the victory.
The Cougars totaled eight shots in the match, finishing efficiently with all four goals coming from attempts on target. The Cougars wrapped up the day with their seventh win of the season and a 5–2–1 conference mark.
Up next, Saint Francis men's soccer closes out the regular season at Marian University on Wednesday, October 29. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. in Indianapolis, Ind.
