HUNTINGTON, Ind. - The University of Saint Francis men's soccer team earned a 4–1 road win over Huntington University on Saturday, October 11. The victory pushes the Cougars to 6–8–1 overall and 4–2 in Crossroads League play, while the Foresters drop to 2–8–4 (0–5–1 CL).
Saint Francis quickly took the lead when Christian Walter scored in the 7th minute, assisted by Ryusei Matsushita. Huntington responded shortly after, with Thiago Fernando finding the net thanks to Kovan Drenth, leveling the score at 1–1.
The Cougars regained control a moment later, with Walter scoring again in the 17th minute, this time assisted by Leo Tuelpanov, giving Saint Francis a 2–1 lead at halftime.
In the second half, Henning Bundschuh extended the lead to 3–1 in the 49th minute, once again assisted by Matsushita—his second assist of the match. Leander Wunder capped off the victory with a goal in the 85th minute, assisted by Björn De Grijs.
Throughout the match, Saint Francis dominated, outshooting Huntington 15–14 overall and placing 11 shots on target compared to the Foresters' 6. Cougar goalkeeper Kevin Wachiaya Onelius recorded five saves while conceding just one goal.
With a strong team performance and offensive balance, the Cougars continue to climb the conference standings as postseason play nears. Up next, SF will host Taylor University at 7:00 p.m. on October 15.
