Lewis's Hat Trick Pushes Cougars Past Maple Leafs
GOSHEN, Ind. - The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) women's soccer team dominated Goshen College in a 6-0 road win on Saturday, October 25.
Less than 10 minutes into the match, junior Faith Lewis scored two goals to put Saint Francis ahead 2-0. Her first goal came from an unassisted strike in the 5th minute, followed by a second goal in the 9th minute, assisted by Hailey Stanforth. At the 17:26 mark, Evelyn Harkenrider extended Saint Francis's lead by scoring her seventh goal of the season. With six minutes left in the first half, Lewis struck again after receiving a pass from Grace Hein, finishing off her first career hat trick while sending the Cougars into halftime with a 4-0 advantage.
In the second half, Saint Francis scored twice, with Madison Meeks finding the back of the net in the 58th minute and Gwen Laurent scoring in the 86th minute, assisted by Taylor Keenan, as the Cougars secured the shutout road win to improve to 8-7-1 overall and 2-6-0 in Crossroads League play.
Saint Francis dominated the match, outshooting Goshen 34-4, with 19 shots on goal for the Cougars. SF also held a 13-1 advantage in corner kicks. Lewis led with five shots on goal, while Harkenrider contributed two. Goalkeepers Alexis Pokley and Rachel Bova combined for two saves to keep the Maple Leafs scoreless on Saturday night.
Up next, the Cougars will conclude the regular season with a home match against Marian University on Wednesday, October 29. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. at Bishop John M. D'Arcy Stadium.
