FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Sophomore Teigen Fortkamp surpassed 1,000 assists as the University of Saint Francis (Ind.) women's volleyball team faced off against No. 7 Indiana Wesleyan University in a Crossroads League home matchup on Wednesday, September 10.
The Wildcats won Saturday's match by a final score of 3-0, with set scores of 25-1, 25-14, 25-11.
The two teams battled in the opening set. With the score tied at 13-13, IWU managed to grab a two-point lead. The Cougars attempted to close the gap, but the Wildcats finished the first set strong, ending with a 5-0 run for a commanding 25-1 victory.
Fortkamp recorded her 1,000th career assist with her 14th assist during the second set. Despite the Cougars' efforts to rally, they fell short, allowing IWU to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
Saint Francis and Indiana Wesleyan started set three in a close battle, but the Wildcats eventually pulled ahead to win the set and the match, improving their overall record to 7-3 and 3-0 in Crossroads League play.
The Cougars totaled 26 kills as a team, led by Kendal Frey with eight kills. Kayla Gumbel and Madison Dhoore each contributed five kills, while Hannah Sweeney recorded 11 digs and four assists. Fortkamp finished the match with a total of 19 assists against the Wildcats.
Next, Saint Francis (4-11, 0-3) will travel to Goshen College for a Crossroads League road match on Saturday, September 10, at 3:00 p.m.
