Crawford and Gregory Lead Cougars Past Maple Leafs
GOSHEN, Ind. - The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) women's basketball team improved to 9-0 on the season and 2-0 in conference play after beating the Goshen College Maple Leafs 83-67 on Saturday, November 23.
USF opened the game with an 11-4 run for the early lead at 4:06 in the first quarter. The Cougars would outscore the Leafs 21-14 in the first for a seven-point lead going into the second quarter. Goshen would try to rally, cutting Saint Francis's lead to 39-31 with 21 seconds left to play in the first half. A made basket by Samiyah Stout put the Cougars up 41-31 at halftime.
As time ran out in the third quarter, Cassidy Crawford made a layup to give USF the 60-52 lead. The Cougars went on a 17-2 run in the first five minutes of the fourth quarter. Saint Francis would go on to win Saturday's game by a final score of 83-67 to remain unbeaten on the season.
Saint Francis shot 61.5% (32-52) from the field and 50% (8-16) from deep. The Cougars also outscored the Leafs in the paint 48-24. Crawford shot 8-12 from the floor and 5-5 from the charity stripe en route to 21 points on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Cali Gregory had 20 points, a team-high, six assists and two steals. Isabella Gizzi shot 80% from three-point range, finishing with 12 points. Chloe McKnight led with eight rebounds while contributing eight points and a steal.
Up next, USF women's basketball (9-0, 2-0) will host the Huntington University Foresters in Crossroads League action on December 4.
