Lady Cougars Chop down the Foresters
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Lady Cougars jump back into the win column by chopping down the Foresters of Huntington University with a final score of 78-70. This win for USF has pushed them to 8-8 in the Crossroads League Conference and 6th place overall in standings.
USF and the Foresters kept the game pretty tight within the first quarter exchanging possessions, turnovers, and steals. The Lady Cougs started to pull ahead after trailing in the first quarter to outshoot the Foresters 25:14 in the 2nd quarter. Julia Mantyla hit a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to end the half for the Lady Cougars extending their lead to 10 at the half, 38-28.
The Lady Cougars were able to hold Huntington to less than 18 points for ¾ quarters and led by as much as 25-points in the 3rd quarter with 03:45 remaining til the fourth. The team shot an astounding 56% from the field and 44% from 3-point range. USF outshot the Foresters in the paint with a 40:16 deficit and contributed more points off the bench than the Foresters.
Key contributors to tonight's win included Cassidy Crawford's double-double tallying 14 rebounds and 19 points. Ally Madden was a game changer for the Lady Cougars just shy of a double-double with 12 points off the bench and 8 rebounds for the team. Emily Parrett contributed 12 points and 6 assists to the win and Julia Mantyla also had 13 points and 4 steals. McKnight & Pate combined for 22 points, 5 rebounds, and 1 steal.
This win improved USF to 12-14 overall. The Lady Cougars will return for their last home match-up Saturday February 11th to host the Grace Lancers for Senior Day. Tip-off will begin at 1pm in Hutzell Athletic Center with Senior Day Festivities taking place before. Cassidy Crawford will be the sole Senior walking for the Lady Cougars.
