Cassidy Crawford's Double-Double not Enough Against Georgetown Tigers
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – On Tuesday evening the University of Saint Francis Lady Cougars (3-2) traveled to Georgetown, Kentucky to take on the Georgetown College Tigers (1-1) and fell 73-65 as the Tigers dominated the fourth quarter.
Opening the game, the Lady Cougars and Tigers went back-and-forth in the early going finding themselves tied at 11 through the game's first five minutes.
Then consecutive three-point makes by sophomore guard Emily Parrett put Saint Francis ahead by seven as they went on to score 11 unanswered points to take a nine-point lead. The Tigers did manage to close the deficit to within four points at the end of the frame as the second quarter began with the Lady Cougars ahead 21-17.
Starting the second quarter the Lady Cougars maintained their lead but then Georgetown began to gain momentum and fought their way back to take the lead after scoring seven unanswered points themselves.
Heading into the final minute the Lady Cougars fought back to regain a four-point lead, but then the Tigers rallied to score on consecutive layups in the final seconds as the game went to halftime tied at 36.
Going into the second half, both teams picked up where they left off with the Lady Cougars scoring the first couple of baskets in the frame. But then eight more unanswered points were scored by the Tigers in the third quarter as they jumped ahead of the Lady Cougars 46-40.
Not to worry as junior guard Reganne Pate scored consecutive layups and nailed a couple of free throws herself to carry Saint Francis back to tie it at 46. The junior stud then sank a three-pointer to put the Lady Cougars back ahead as she scored nine unanswered points all by herself.
The game entered the fourth quarter with the Lady Cougars holding on by a thread, ahead 53-52.
But opening the fourth quarter the Tigers scored five unanswered points and set the tone for the rest of the game. The next several minutes went back-and-forth between both teams with Saint Francis hanging tough, down by four with three minutes to play.
Unfortunately for the Lady Cougars, the Tigers dominated the action the rest of the way through, extending their lead to eight points as Saint Francis suffered the tough loss.
Throughout the game, the Lady Cougars scored 45 percent from the floor, 30 percent from beyond the three-point line, and 46 percent from the free throw line. Cassidy Crawford led the way in scoring again with her fourth double-double on the season with 21 points and 11 rebounds, while Reganne Pate followed with 13 points of her own.
The Lady Cougars resume play on Friday evening when they travel to Huntington, Indiana to compete in the Huntington University Classic with their first game against the Indiana East Red Wolves (0-3) beginning at 6:00 pm.
