Men's Soccer Concludes Regular Season at Marian; Secures No. 4 Seed in CL Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.- The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) men's soccer team put up a strong fight on the road Wednesday, but came up just short in a 5–3 loss to (RV) Marian University in Indianapolis.
 
Marian came out fast, scoring twice in the opening 13 minutes, with Gustavo Nunes netting both goals. Saint Francis responded in the 28th minute when Christian Walter connected off an assist from Paul Scheifele to make it 2–1. The Knights extended their lead before halftime with goals from Foslyn Grant and Donovan Doolittle to go up 4–1 at the break. 

In the second half, Marian's Sebastian Gonzalez added a fifth goal in the 55th minute, but the Cougars refused to quit. Junior Happi scored unassisted in the 69th minute, and Heine Nordboe followed with another unassisted goal in the 79th, trimming the deficit to 5–3. Despite outshooting Marian 12–10 and showing resilience down the stretch, the Cougars' rally would fall short as Marian secured the victory.

Saint Francis goalkeeper Kevin Wachiaya Onelius recorded two saves while facing seven shots on goal. Walter, Happi, and Scheifele each fired off a pair of shots on Wednesday night.

Saint Francis men's soccer concludes the regular season with an overall record of 7-9-2 and a league record of 5-3-1. The Cougars have secured the No. 4 seed in the Crossroads League Tournament and will host No. 5-seeded Spring Arbor University on for the quarterfinal round on November 4. Match time is set for 6:00 p.m. at Bishop John M. D'Arcy Stadium.
