Saint Francis Splits Weekend at Rochester Classic
ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. - The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) men's basketball team competed at the Rochester Classic, hosted by Rochester Christian University on November 7-8.
SAINT FRANCIS 122, MICHIGAN-DEARBORN 85
The Cougars faced Michigan-Dearborn in non-conference action on Friday night. Saint Francis ran away with Friday night's game, defeating Michigan-Dearborn 122-85.
The Cougars began Friday night's game with a quick 6-0 run, taking an early lead. Saint Francis extended its advantage to 35-21 following a timeout called by the Wolverines. A layup in the last seconds of the half secured the Cougars' 63-41 lead at halftime.
SF outscored Michigan-Dearborn 59-42 in the second half as the Cougars secured the 122-85 win to improve to 3-2 on the season.
The Cougars shot 56.2% (41-73) from the floor and 47.8% (11-23) from three-point range against the Wolverines. Saint Francis outrebounded Michigan-Dearborn 53-29 and scored 54 points in the paint compared to the Wolverines' 38. Six Cougars scored ten or more points in Friday night's game, including Marr Avance with a team-high 20 points. RJ Moore added 19 points and six rebounds, while Eugene Young Jr. and Jevon Lewis finished with 18 points apiece. Malachi King added 13 points, followed by Keshawn McNeill with 10 points. Karson Rogers led the team with nine rebounds.
ROCHESTER CHRISTIAN 96, SAINT FRANCIS 84
The Cougars fell short against the host Rochester Christian University Warriors (3-1) on Saturday afternoon.
The Warriors started Saturday's game strong, establishing an early 16-6 lead with 15:29 on the clock in the first half. The Cougars tried to rally to cut the deficit before halftime, but were unable to, as Rochester Christian took a 50-29 lead at the intermission.
The second half was a closer battle, with Rochester Christian narrowly outscoring Saint Francis 46-45 to secure the 96-84 victory.
Saint Francis finished with a 47.1% (32-68) field goal percentage. Lewis led the Cougars with 21 points and five assists. Rogers scored 18 points with four rebounds and a block, while Avance added 15 points, three assists and a steal. Justin McNelkan also scored in double-digits, recording 14 points against the Warriors.
Up next, Saint Francis men's basketball (3-3) will battle cross-town rival Indiana Institute of Technology on Saturday, November 15, following the conclusion of the women's game starting at 1:00 p.m.
