WINONA LAKE, Ind. -- The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) Cougars were without a key starter in Charlie Yoder. Isaiah Malone got the nod to start for the Cougars and match up with his brother, All-Conference big man, Elijah Malone. USF took on the Grace Lancers at the Manahan Orthopedic Capital Center in a crucial Crossroads League match-up. Overall, the Cougars are now 10-8 and 3-5 in the conference. They lost the contest with a final score of 85-64.
USF started the game on a slow start trailing at the 13-minute mark to a score of 23-4. USF freshman Luke Almodovar led the team in scoring with 16 points going 5-10 from the field. The Lancers came out of the half knowing where they were going to get their points. Grace's 6'10 big man, Elijah Malone, tallied 20 points while pulling in 15 rebounds. Joe Reidy, Zane Burke, and Branden Northern all scored 9 points while Isaiah Malone contributed 8 points. For the Lancers, Jakob Gibbs scored 18 points while only playing 25 minutes in the contest.
The Cougars are back in Hutzell Athletic Center for Crossroads League play this Saturday, January 20th. USF will battle the Cougars of Spring Arbor University (Mich.) at 3:00 PM as they look to gain momentum in the midst of conference season.
