Indiana Wesleyan
HUNTINGTON, Ind. -- Thursday afternoon, The University of Saint Francis Cougars took on the Indiana Wesleyan University Wildcats in the Crossroads League Tournament at Forest Glen Park, losing the matchup 5-7. The Cougars still have a chance to advance if they win tomorrow's match-up against Spring Arbor University.
In the tournament series, Blaine McRae started on the mound for the Cougars. The game would start off as a mostly defensive showdown, until Indiana Wesleyan jumped out early with a 2-run homerun in the bottom of the 1st to make it 2-0, but from there the game would be mostly scoreless. Blaine McRae cleaned up from his mistakes and allowed no runs earned through the remaining 5 ½ innings pitched. The Cougars started gaining momentum in the 6th inning from a Jose Valdez-Sandoval 2-run single, Eli Riley single, and Brendan Lytle balk to make it 4-2 in favor of the Cougs. But, the Wildcats would strike back hard off a 2-run single and 3-run double in the bottom of the 6th to make it 4-7, Wildcats. The Cougars would try to rally back the best they could off a Kolton Cardenas single to make it 5-7, but it would not be enough to get around the Wildcats defense. The Cougars would lose the opening tournament game 5-7, but not all hope is lost as they have a chance to bounce back Friday May 5th.
The Cougars next tournament series will be Friday (May 5th) against The University of Spring Arbor at Forest Glen Park in Huntington, Indiana with a 2:30PM first pitch start.
