Cougars Split Series 1 with the Wildcats

KOKOMO, IND. -- On Friday afternoon, The University of Saint Francis Cougars (11-15, 6-8 CL) took on the Indiana Wesleyan University Wildcats (15-10-1, 10-3 CL) in a doubleheader road series splitting the series with an 8-4 victory and a 1-4 loss.

In the first game of the series, Riley Perlich took the mound for the Cougars. The Wildcats offense was explosive to start the game, as they started off with a single and an earned run off a walk in the 1st to make it 2-0. But, wanting to make the rivalry game competitive, the Cougars rallied back with a single and an RBI double to make it 2-2 in the top of the 4th. The Wildcats hit a solo homerun in the 5th to go up 3-2. However, the Cougars offense pulled out more punches to answer. A line drive 2-run RBI from David Miller, a Nick Parsons solo homerun, and a Sam Pesa single would all be added to make it a 5-3 Cougars lead in the 7th. The Wildcats responded with another solo homerun to cut the deficit down to one run (Score: 5-4) in the 8th, but the Wildcat offense would sputter out. The Cougars added another single and a double to make it 8-4 in the 9th and would close out the first game with a win.

In game two of the 2-game series, Blaine McRae earned the start ont he mound for the Cougars. The Wildcats came out looking for revenge in the 1st, as they hit a single to go up 1-0. The Cougars offense was cold until the 4th inning, until Xavier Croxton hit an RBI double to tie the game at one-run a piece. The Cougars defense were extremely battle tested all game, but allowed the Wildacts to find a hole in their defense. A Wildcat double and sacrifice fly would add 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th to make it 4-1. While the Cougars tried to rally in the 7th, it was not enough. Indiana Wesleyan would secure the game two win to split the series.
