FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) volleyball team battled No. 12 Mount Vernon Nazarene during Crossroads League action inside the Hutzell Athletic Center on November 5.
MVNU won the match 3-0, with set scores of 25-12, 25-16 and 25-20.
Mount Vernon Nazarene started the match strong, with MVNU hitting .560 with 17 kills en route to a set one victory and an early lead in the match.
Saint Francis was unable to slow MVNU's offensive attack as the SF Cougars fell short in the second set by a final score of 25-16.
The two teams battled back and forth to open the third set. With the score tied at 12-12, MVNU pulled ahead to take a 20-15 lead. Saint Francis fought back but was unable to cut the deficit as Mount Vernon Nazarene won the match after a 20-25 victory in set three.
Kayla Gumbel led Saint Francis with six kills, followed by Annabelle Sweigert with five kills. Teigen Fortkamp recorded 19 assists, three aces and two block assists. Hannah Sweeney finished with a team-high 11 digs.
Saint Francis volleyball concludes the season with an overall record of 4-26 and a league record of 0-18.
