Saint Francis Topped by (RV) Taylor in Three Sets

UPLAND, Ind. - The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) women's volleyball team continued Crossroads League play at (RV) Taylor University on Wednesday, October 29.

The Trojans (19-9, 10-6) won the match by a final score of 3-0, with set scores of 25-19, 25-17, 25-23. 

Taylor started strong in set one, jumping out to a 13-8 lead. The Cougars rallied and brought the score within three, but Saint Francis was unable to slow the Trojans' offensive attack as Taylor finished with a hitting percentage of .323, winning set one 25-19.

The Trojans maintained control of the match in set two, grabbing a 23-14 lead to force a Saint Francis timeout. After the timeout, the Cougars responded with a 4-0 run, cutting the Trojans' lead to 23-17. Taylor managed to hold on and win set two 25-17, taking a 2-0 lead in the match.

The two teams battle back and forth in set three, with the score tied more than eight times before Taylor pulled ahead by three points. With the score at 23-20 in favor of Taylor, Saint Francis fought back, forcing the Trojans to call a timeout before tying the game up again at 23-23. A service error followed by a kill from Taylor gave the Trojans the two points they needed to narrowly win set three and the match. 

As a team, the Cougars finished with 30 kills, seven aces and six block assists. Kendal Frey led SF with nine kills, while Annabelle Sweigert added seven kills and two block assists. Teigen Fortkamp recorded 24 assists and a pair of kills, while Katie Mills had a team-high three aces. Hannah Sweeney contributed 16 digs.

Up next, the Cougars (4-24, 0-16 CL) will host Bethel University during Senior Night at the Hutzell Athletic Center on Saturday, November 1. Match time is set for 5:30 p.m.
