Fortkamp Highlights Pink Out Match with 1,000th Career Kill
FORT WAYNE, Ind. — The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) women's volleyball team hosted the Grace College Lancers Wednesday evening in a Pink Out match in Support of Breast Cancer Awareness. The Cougars fell to the Lancers in 5 sets, but Paige Fortkamp highlighted the night for USF, notching her 1,000th career kill in the 4th set.
USF fought back after being defeated in the first set to the Lancers with a 25-23 score line. USF took a 2-1 lead after the third set and dropped the fourth set due to some Lancer offense at the net. From there, the Cougars momentum carried them through to the fifth set. Set scores included set 1 with a 25-23 Lancer score line, set 2 at 26-24 in favor of USF, set 3 was 25-22 in favor of USF, set 4 was 25-19 in favor of the Lancers, and Grace took the victory in set 5 with a final of 15-11.
Key contributors to the 5 set effort from USF came from Paige Fortkamp who tallied 16 kills, 17 assists, & 10 digs. Addison Shafer and Caroline Jones were also an offensive prowess at the net combining for 24 kills and Jones notched 4 service aces. Hannah Sweeney stole the night with 21 total digs keeping the Cougar rally alive, with Alexis Gregory contributing 18 digs as well. Jo Delsing (2 service aces) recorded 13 digs on the night and led with 33 assists.
The Cougars are now 8-18 overall and 2-11 in CL play. The Cougars currently sit at 9th overall in CL contention for the postseason. USF will travel to Marion, Indiana to play in the IWU weekend classic against the No. 2-Ranked Wildcats. First serve is set for 7pm in Luckey Arena.
