Cougars Battle No. 2 Knights; Secure Spot in Crossroads League Tournament
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) women's soccer team concluded the regular season with a home match against No. 2 Marian University on Wednesday, October 29. The Knights (15-0-1, 7-0-1 CL) won Wednesday night's matchup by a final score of 3-0.
The first half of Wednesday's match ended in a 0-0 draw, as Saint Francis was unable to convert any of their shot opportunities into goals. Haleigh Wesley and Gwen Laurent both had attempts but were unable to find the back of the net.
Marian opened the scoring in the 57th minute with a goal from Taylor Wert. The Knights extended their lead with goals in the 67th and 74th minutes, bringing the score to 3-0. Despite creating chances, Saint Francis was unable to capitalize as MU kept SF off the scoreboard for the 3-0 win.
During Wednesday night's matchup, the Cougars took five shots and were narrowly outmatched in corner kicks, with a count of 3-2 in favor of Marian. Madison Meeks and Faith Lewis each had shots on goal, while sophomore goalie Rachel Bova made six saves.
Saint Francis women's soccer concludes the regular season with an overall record of 8-8-1 and a record of 2-7 in league play. The Cougars have secured the No. 8 spot in the Crossroads League rankings and will face Marian University, the No. 1 seed, in the Crossroads League Tournament Quarterfinals on November 5.
