Cougars Fall 3-0 to Lawrence Tech Blue Devils
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The University of Saint Francis Cougars (2-4-1) traveled to Southfield, Michigan Wednesday evening to face off against the Lawrence Tech University Blue Devils (3-1-1), but fell 3-0 as the Blue Devils offense was explosive.
As the game got underway, the Cougars produced the first scoring opportunity of the night with Mikayla Smith's shot being saved. Then the Blue Devils took control on offense, storming down the field and knocking the ball past senior goalkeeper Melanie Xouris in the eighth minute to give Lawrence Tech a 1-0 lead.
Through the next several minutes, both teams scratched and clawed with neither able to find the net. Xouris was forced to make her first several saves on the night, and no more scoring was done in the first half as the game went to halftime with the Cougars trailing 1-0.
During the first half Lawrence Tech had eight shots with Xouris making three saves. But the Cougars managed just three shots themselves with two being on goal.
Heading into the second half, the Blue Devils continued pressing. Just over five minutes into the frame, they doubled the score. The Cougars then struggled to get any momentum going on offense. They would not have another shot for the game, while a third goal for the Blue Devils in the 84th minute was the final nail in the coffin as Saint Francis was dealt the loss.
Throughout the game the three shots was all from the Cougars, while Xouris made 11 saves with 15 shots on goal, with a team save.
The Cougars resume play on Saturday evening when they return home to Bishop D'Arcy Stadium to take on the Cleary University Cougars (0-2) beginning at 7:00 pm.
