No. 7 Cougars Cruise Past (RV) Huntington in 85-47 Road Win
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The No. 7 University of Saint Francis (Ind.) women's basketball team delivered a dominant 85-47 road victory over (RV) Huntington University on Wednesday, February 18.
Saint Francis set the tone early, holding Huntington to just six points in the opening quarter while pouring in 21 to take control. The Cougars extended their lead to 33-13 at the 1:46 mark of the second quarter. SF went into halftime on top, 37 -18.
The defensive pressure continued after the break, as the Foresters were limited to just four points in the third quarter. A jumper followed by a free throw extended Saint Francis' lead to its largest of the night, with the score at 80-34, with 2:18 left in the fourth. The Cougars cruised to the 85-47 final, improving to 14-3 in Crossroads League play.
As a team, Saint Francis shot a 52.2% (35-67) from the field and 41.7% (10-24) from three-point range. The Cougars also scored 30 points off 21 Foresters turnovers. Isabella Gizzi and Taylor Fordyce led the way with 13 points and six rebounds apiece. Fordyce added three steals, while Gizzi contributed three assists. Addison Bowsman contributed 12 points off the bench, and Renna Schwieterman chipped in 11. Samiyah Stout recorded a team-high four steals along with a block in the win.
Up next, the Cougars (24-3, 14-3 CL) will conclude the regular season against No. 16 Spring Arbor University during Senior Day at the Hutzell Athletic Center on Saturday, February 21. In their first meeting of the season, SF escaped with a 53-50 win over SAU.
