FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The No. 6 University of Saint Francis (Ind.) Cougars downed visiting Bethel University, 62–46, in Crossroads League action on Saturday, December 6. With the victory, the Cougars improved to 10–1 overall and 3–1 in league play.
The two teams traded baskets throughout the first quarter before Saint Francis edged ahead with an 11–8 lead entering the second. The Cougars gained separation before halftime, outscoring Bethel 17–10 in the second quarter to take a 28–18 advantage into the break.
Bethel responded in the third, trimming the Cougars' lead to 39–32 heading into the final period. SF closed out the game with an efficient offensive showing, shooting 64.3% in the fourth quarter and scoring 23 points to secure the 62–46 home victory.
Saint Francis shot 44.9% (22–49) from the field and collected 30 rebounds in the win. Renna Schwieterman led the Cougars with 21 points on 10-of-14 shooting, adding a team-high six rebounds and two steals. Cali Gregory contributed 12 points and six assists, while Taylor Fordyce added 11 points and five rebounds. Isabella Gizzi finished with nine points and four boards.
Up next, Saint Francis women's basketball (10-, 3-1 CL) will travel to Florida for two non-league matchups against Webber International University and Southeastern University on December 12-13. The Cougars will return to Fort Wayne against Rochester Christian University on December 27.
