No. 11 USF Downs MVNU 84-65

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) women's basketball team hosted Mount Vernon Nazarene for a Crossroads League matchup on Wednesday, January 8. The No. 11 Cougars of USF defeated MVNU by a final score of 84-65. 

Mount Vernon Nazarene began Wednesday night's game strong, jumping to an early 11-6 lead. USF answered with a 9-0 run, taking a 15-11 lead with 3:11 remaining in the first quarter. USF's offense heated up as the first quarter progressed, allowing the Cougars to finish the quarter with a commanding 29-14 lead. Saint Francis continued to dominate offensively, shooting an impressive 64.3% and extending their lead to 51-34 by halftime.

Saint Francis maintained their lead throughout Wednesday night's game, outscoring MVNU in the second half to secure an 84-65 victory. With the win, Saint Francis improves to 6-1 at home this season and 5-1 in Crossroads League play.

Overall, USF shot 50.8% (32-63) from the field and 42.9% (9-21) from beyond the three-point arc. Saint Francis also outscored MVNU 46-18 in the paint. Freshman Cali Gregory led the Cougars with 17 points and five assists while coming away with two steals and three rebounds. Chloe McKnight shot 5-9 from deep en route to 15 points while dishing out three assists. Isabella Gizzi also finished the night with 15 points and four rebounds. Julia Mantyla followed with 11 points, four rebounds and a block. Cassidy Crawford led in rebounds with six while also having two steals and a block. 

Up next, USF women's basketball (15-1, 5-1) will travel to Indianapolis to take on the No. 15 ranked Marian University Knights on Saturday, January 11. Saint Francis returns to Fort Wayne on January 15 as the Cougars host the Grace College Lancers starting at 5:30 p.m.
