Lady Cougars Improve to 2-0 in Crossroads Play with Victory Over Huntington

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – On Tuesday evening the University of Saint Francis Lady Cougars (6-3; 2-0 Crossroads) traveled to Huntington, Indiana to take on the Huntington University Foresters (3-6; 0-2 Crossroads) in their first road conference game of the season and prevailed 60-51.

After opening conference play with a solid 15-point win over the Bethel Pilots on Saturday, the Lady Cougars were anxious to get back out and improve on their record in the Crossroads League.

As the game got underway the Lady Cougars found themselves trailing 7-2 in the opening minutes but responded to chip away and eventually take a 12-11 lead with four minutes left in the first quarter. The rest of the frame went back-and-forth with the Foresters leading 15-14 heading into the second quarter.

The seesaw battle then continued in the second with both teams finding themselves tied at 19 halfway through the frame. Saint Francis then found some momentum and put themselves ahead 25-21 late in the quarter.

The Lady Cougars built upon that lead and had a 28-23 advantage heading into halftime after holding the Foresters to a shooting percentage of just 29 from the floor and just eight percent from beyond the three-point line.

Heading into the second half the Lady Cougars picked up where they left off and extended their lead to as much as 10 points early in the third quarter. Although the Foresters clawed back to close the deficit to within six points, Saint Francis still led 45-39 heading into the fourth quarter.

In the fourth quarter the Lady Cougars outscored the Foresters 15-12 in the frame to hold on for a nine-point victory and a 2-0 record to start conference play.

Throughout the game, the Lady Cougars shot 42 percent from the floor, 33 percent from beyond the three-point line, and 68 percent from the free throw line. Sophomore guard Emily Parrett led the way in scoring with 15 points for the Lady Cougars as well as six rebounds while sophomore guard Chloe McKnight chipped in with 14 points and five rebounds of her own.

The Lady Cougars resume play next Wednesday evening when they return home to Hutzell Athletic Center to take on the Goshen College Maple Leafs (5-1; 1-0 Crossroads) beginning at 7:00 pm.
