Softball Drops Doubleheader to Lindsey Wilson
HENDERSON, Tenn. - The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) softball team fell to Lindsey Wilson College in a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday, March 1.
The Cougars fell in game one by a final score of 7-5 before dropping a hard-fought 8-7 battle in game two.
LINDSEY WILSON 7, SAINT FRANCIS 5
- The Blue Raiders put three runs on the board in the top of the first inning to take the early lead.
- Abby Robakowski scored Paiton Iliff on a sacrifice fly to cut Lindsey Wilson's lead to two in the bottom of the first.
- The Blue Raiders added two more runs in the fourth and fifth innings. However, the Cougars fought back with an RBI double from Robakowskiand took advantage of a Blue Raider error, bringing the score to 5-4, just one run behind.
- Lindsey Wilson scored two more runs in the last two innings while holding Saint Francis scoreless to secure the 7-5 win.
- The Cougars had seven hits against the Blue Raiders. Macie Dowd went 3-4 at the plate with a double and a run scored. Robakowski hit 1-3 with a double, a run scored and two RBI.
- Kennedy Baioni threw 3.2 innings on the mound as the Cougars' starting pitcher, scattering four hits and giving up three earned runs.
- Mady Tompkins threw 3.1 innings of relief, striking out two batters and giving up just one walk.
LINDSEY WILSON 8, SAINT FRANCIS 7
- The Blue Raiders jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning of game two.
- A single down the left field line from Brooklyn McCord scored Haylee Schott and Robakowski to tie the game up in the top of the second.
- After Linsdey Wilson plated another run in the bottom of the third, Robakowski homered to center field and McCord hit a sac fly to left field to give the Cougars the 4-3 lead.
- The Blue Raiders put together a big sixth inning as Lindsey Wilson retook the lead, with the score at 8-4.
- In the top of the seventh inning, junior Macie Dowd hit a double to left center to bring in two runs and cut the Blue Raiders' lead to 8-6. Robakowski hit an RBI double to bring the Cougars within one run, but USF's rally would fall short as Lindsey Wilson won game two to complete the doubleheader sweep.
- Saint Francis scattered seven hits in game two. Robakowski went 3-4 at the plate with two RBI, a double and a home run. McCord led with three RBI after hitting 1-2 with a sacrifice fly. Dowd also drove in two runs and had an extra-base hit. Lillian Pierce had her second stolen base of the day in game two and went 1-2 at the plate with a walk.
- Ellie Sauder got the start on the mound for USF, striking out four batters and giving up eight hits in 5.0 innings of work.
Up next, USF softball (1-3) will travel to Florida to compete in the Space Coast Spring Games on March 5-8. The Cougars kick off their trip with games against Cleary University and the University of Michigan-Dearborn on Wednesday.
