Cougars Drop Heart-Breaker Against Taylor in Crossroads League Tournament

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. - The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) softball team wrapped up the 2024 softball season at the Crossroads League Tournament after the no.7 seeded Cougars dropped a close battle to no. 6 Taylor, 4-3.
The Lady Cougars put a run on the scoreboard first, after Madisyn Miller drew a walk to score Macie Dowd in the top of the 1st inning.
USF would hold onto the lead until bottom of the 5th, when Taylor plated a run on an error to tie the score 1-1.
Madyson Minnich hit a two-run double with two outs in the top of the 6th inning to give the Lady Cougars back the lead.
The Trojans answered, scoring two runs in the bottom of the 6th to tie the score up 3-3. With one out in the 6th, Taylor would retake the one-run lead.
Despite putting two runners on in the 7th, the Lady Cougars were unable to score again, falling 4-3 to the Trojans.
As a team, Saint Francis tallied six hits and drew five walks.
Bree Miller and Madisyn Miller both went 1-2 at the plate with a combined three walks on the day. Anna Smith hit 2-4, while Minnich led with an extra-base hit and two RBIs.
Ellie Sauder pitched all 6.0 innings for USF, allowing six hits and issuing only one walk. Sauder also recorded a strikeout.
Overall, the Lady Cougars finished the season with a .420 season record, going 21-29 overall and 14-22 in conference play.
