Cougs finish off Regular Season with 4-game series Sweep of Pilots

MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- The USF Cougars traveled to Mishawaka, Indiana to finish up their last doubleheader of the regular season against the Bethel University Pilots, Friday afternoon. The Cougars won Game 1, 15-9 and won Game 2, 11-5. 

Kenzie Rust, the junior from Leo, Indiana, gained the start on the mound for the Lady Cougars pitching 4 innings resulting in 3 strikeouts and 5 hits giving up. 

Some key highlights from game one included Macie Dowd going 2:5 from the plate and hitting a home run early in the 2nd inning allowing the Cougars to take the lead, 5-1. USF increased their lead in the 3rd inning, 9-5 from Aubrey Dunnuck hitting a home run. Dunnuck went 2:2 from the plate and tallied 2 stolen bases. The Lady Cougars continued theirdominant play with Brooklyn McCord also hitting a homerun in the 3rd inning, increasing their lead to 10-5. The Cougars also had 15 RBI's, 4 being from Dunnuck and McCord, 2 from Dowd, and 1 from Tori Miller, Paiton Iliff, Dani Karr, Abi Erwin, and Brenna Homan. 

In the 5th inning, Mia Werner came in to pitch relief, striking out 2 batters and giving up 4 hits.  

Leading the double header 1-0, the USF continued to bring the heat into the second game in hopes of winning the 4-game-series against Bethel. Kenzie Rust gained the start on the mound for the Cougars, pitching 6 innings that resulted in 5 strikeouts and only 9 hits given up. 

Some key highlights from game two included Tori Miller to hit a home run in the 3rd inning brining the score to 3-0 in favor of the Cougars. Paiton Iliff went 1:4 from the plate and in that one hit, hit a home run in the 3rd inning aswell bringing the score up to 4-0. Aubrey Dunnuck also went 1:3 from the plate with the one hit being a home run as well in the 3rd. The Cougars tallied 11 RBI's, 4 from Miller, 3 of them being from Dunnuck, 2 from Brenna Homan, and 1 being from Paiton Iliff and Brooklyn McCord. 

Tori Miller went 2:4 hitting another home run in the 5th inning. Miller now holds the USF Cougars Softball season record for home runs with 12 home runs for the season. #MillerTime

The Cougars will end off their regular season at 16-20 in the Crossroads League and 22-24 overall. The Cougars will start off their Conference run next week in hopes of moving farther into their post season run. The Crossroads Post season Tournament will be held at Mount Vernon Nazarene University in Mount Vernon, Ohio and will span from May 3-6.
