McCord helps to lead the Lady Cougs to a split series Upset with the Wildcats

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) suffered a tough loss to the No. 22-Ranked Indiana Wesleyan University Wildcats with a final score of 9-5. Despite Kenzie Rust's strong performance on the mound, striking out 2 batters and only allowing 2 walks, the Lady Cougars couldn't generate enough offense to pull out a win.

Aubrey Dunnuck hit a solo homerun in the 5th inning, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Wildcats' lead. Brooklyn McCord and Paiton Iliff also had hits in the game, with McCord going 1-for-3 with an RBI and Iliff going 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Tori Miller and Anna Smith both had at-bats and made contributions in the field. Miller went 1-for-3 with a run scored and 1 assist in the field while Smith went 2-for-3 with 2 assists.

The Lady Cougars had several players with strong at-bat percentages, including Brooklyn McCord, who went 2-for-4, and Aubrey Dunnuck, who went 2-for-2 at the plate and 3 RBI's.

Despite the loss, the Lady Cougars remain focused and determined as they look to bounce back in the second game of the two-game series against Indiana Wesleyan. With an overall record of 8-18 and a conference record of 2-14 in the Crossroads League Conference, the Lady Cougars have their work cut out for them as they fight to improve their standing in the conference.

The Lady Cougs pulled off an upset in game 2 of the 2-game series against the No. 22-ranked Wildcats, winning 6-5 in a thrilling walk-off effort by Brooklyn McCord. The Lady Cougars split the series 1-1 with the win, and they couldn't have done it without the impressive work on the mound by Mia Werner, who pitched the entire game.

The Lady Cougars got things going offensively in the 1st inning with a sacrifice-fly by Carley Turner, to move thr unners (Iliff), which set the tone for the rest of the game. Macie Dowd, Brooklyn McCord, Abi Erwin, and Anna Smith all had strong at-bat performances, with Dowd going 3-for-4, McCord going 2-for-5 with an RBI, Erwin going 2-for-3, and Smith going 3-for-3, and tallying 2 RBI's.

Werner's pitching was crucial to the Lady Cougars' success, and she was confident and focused throughout the game. She commented after the game, "[Pregame prep]...nothing personally we just have to have a good momentum coming into the game and all be on the same page and I think that we demonstrated that really well today...I just tell myself to go pitch by pitch and that's just what you have to do. You can't think ahead and you can't think about anything else other than what you are doing in that moment."

The Lady Cougars' victory was secured by Brooklyn McCord's walk-off double, and she expressed her excitement about the win, saying, "[The Upset] it was awesome... we just have to continue to be ourselves, have fun, and play hard."

The Lady Cougars will be back in action on Wednesday, April 12th for a doubleheader against the Grace College Lancers, who have a 6-19 overall record and a 5-15 record in the Crossroads League Conference. The Lady Cougars will look to build on their momentum from the upset win over Indiana Wesleyan and continue to play with the same energy and determination.
