INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The University of Saint Francis Softball team traveled to play on the road against the Marian University Knights at MU Softball Field, Thursday afternoon in a doubleheader. The Lady Cougars lost both games dropping Game 1, 0-2 and dropping Game 2 in 9-innings, 3-4.
In Game 1, Kenzie Rust earned the start on the mound striking out 4 batters and only giving up 8 hits. The Lady Cougars had a rough time finding their footing in the game, only being able to muster up one hit from Junior Catcher, Tori Miller.
In Game 2, Mia Werner earned her start on the mound pitching 5 innings, striking out 8 batters and giving up only 6 hits. The Lady Cougars got their foot in the door early in the 2nd inning, with Brenna Homan reaching on a fielder's choice which allowed her to advance to second on the throw and Aubrey Dunnuck advancing to home on an error at third base.
The Lady Cougars continued to bring the heat in the 4th inning with Mady Minnich singling to left field and gaining herself an RBI with Aubrey Dunnuck advancing home for the Lady Cougs. In the 6th inning, Dani Karr singled which alotted for an RBI, advancing Macie Dowd home & Tori Miller to second base. Aubrey Dunnuck went 2:4 from the plate along with Brooklyn McCord and Macie Dowd. Dani Karr went 2:5 from the plate with one RBI and; Maddy Minnich, Tori Miller, and Abi Erwin all went 1:5 from the plate, with Minnich having one RBI.
In the 6th inning, Kenzie Rust came in for the potential save, striking out one batter and only giving up 5 hits.
The Lady Cougars are now 7-17 overall & 1-13 in the Crossroads League. USF will be on the road for their next doubleheader to compete against Indiana Wesleyan University. The Lady Cougars will play IWU Tuesday (April 11th) with 3pm & 5pm start times. The IWU Wildcats are currently 19-9 overall and 8-6 in the Crossroads Leage on a 2 game winning streak. The Lady Cougars will return home after this upcoming week for a stretch of home series at Westendorf Field.
