Lady Cougars Prevail over WHAC's Blue Devils

MELBOURNE, Fla.- the USF Lady Cougs continued their USSSA Softball Regional tenure. In Game 5 of the 6 game series, the Lady Cougs competed at Pride Stadium, against Lawrence Tech (Mich.). USF won in extra innings against LTU, taking down their second opponent from the WHAC conference, 3-2.

Mia Werner earned the start of the mound for the Cougars, striking out 1 batter and only giving up 2 runs from the 6 hits given up. The Lady Cougars had a tough fight up until the 5th inning where they pulled ahead and took the lead due to Brooklyn McCord reaching 1st on an error in the LTU field. This error was costly for the Blue Devils as the USF Cougars advanced into scoring position, and Madyson Minnich was able to steal home for the tie. In the bottom of the 7th, Anna Smith doubled, tallying an RBI from Iliff advancing home.

Anna Smith went 2:3 from the plate, Carly Turner went 1:2 from the plate and tallied an RBI. Abby Erwin and Madyson Minnich both went 1:3 from the plate, and Brooklyn McCord, Paiton Illif, and Tori Miller all went 1:4 from the plate. Freshman, Ashlynn Allman, scored the winning run for the Lady Cougars.

The Lady Cougars will continue their USSSA Regional series with another match-up today (March 11th) against Cornerstone University (Mich.). Cornerstone University (Mich.) is 4-6 overall and currently on a 2 game winning streak. Their last USSSA Regional Softball Match-up was with the University of Fort Lauderdale (Fla.).
