Extra Innings Result in a Loss for the Lady Cougs
MELBOURNE, Fla.- The University of Saint Francis Softball team continued their USSSA Softball Regional Tournament tenure with Game 4 of their 6 game series. In Game 4 of the Regional series stretch, the Lady Cougs competed at Blue Lagoon Stadium, against West Virginia Tech. USF lost to its River States Conference opponent, 1-2 in extra innings.
Kenzie Rust earned the start on the mound for the Cougars, striking out 5 batters and only giving up 2 runs throughout the entirety of the game. Rust was a pivotal point in the Cougars defense as she quite literally layed out for outs & threw immense heat to every batter. The Lady Cougars took the lead early in the game in the second inning due to an error causing Brooklyn McCord to advance to home plate and scoring the only run for the Cougs. Anna Smith and Brooklyn McCord both went 1:3 from the plate tallying the 2 hits that the Cougars were able to produce.
The Lady Cougars will continue their USSSA Regional series with another two match-ups tomorrow (March 11th) against Lawrence Tech & Cornerstone University (Mi.). Lawrence Tech is 8-5 overall and riding off a momentous win from their previous USSSA Regional match-up. Their last USSSA Regional Softball Match-up was with Fisher College (Ma.). USF is now 2-4 overall and preparing for Crossroads League play with their last day of contention in Melbourne.
