Lady Cougs "Shock" Washington Adventist in USSSA Regional
MELBOURNE, Fla.- The University of Saint Francis Softball team continued their stay in Melbourne, Florida for the USSSA Softball Regional Tournament. In Game 3 of this 6 game Regional series stretch, the Lady Cougs competed at Blue Marucci Stadium, against Washington Adventist University. USF won with a hitting frenzy, finishing the game, 9-1. The Lady Cougars are now 2-1 in their Regional series stretch.
Erika Turpin earned the start on the mound for the Cougars, striking out 6 batters and only giving up 2 hits throughout the entirety of the game and giving up only one run in the 4th inning. The Lady Cougars took the lead very early in the game due to Tori Miller doubling and earning herself her first RBI of the game resulting in Anna Smith advancing back to home and scoring her first run of the game. Tori Miller went 2:3 from the plate with 4 RBI's and two runs, one of them being a homer in the bottom of the 2nd. Peyton Iliff went 2:2 from the plate and scored 2 runs, Abby Erwin, Aubrey Dunnuck, and Brooklyn McCord all went 2:1 from the plate with Dunnuck and Erwin both tallying an RBI. Anna Smith also went 1:3 from the plate and scored 2 runs. Brooklyn McCord, Ashlynn Allman, and Aubrey Dunnuck all scored one run and Brenna Homan had an RBI as well to cap off the 8-run lead.
The Lady Cougars will continue their USSSA Regional series with another match-up today (March 10th) against West Virginia Tech. West Virginia Tech is 6-4 overall. Their last USSSA Regional Softball Match-up was with Cleary University who the Cougars lost to in Game 1 of their USSSA Regional series.
