USF Softball Earns First Win of the Season at USSSA Regional
MELBOURNE, Fla.- The University of Saint Francis Softball team continued their USSSA Softball Regional Tournament run with Game 2 for March 9th. In Game 2 of this six game Regional series stretch, the Lady Cougars competed at Pride Stadium, coming out with a win against Culver-Stockton. USF is now 1-1 in their Regional series debut.
Mia Werner earned the start on the mound for the Cougars, striking out 2 batters and giving up only 4 hits throughout the entirety of the game and giving up no runs. The Lady Cougars took the lead early in the game in the second inning due to an error, causing Anna Smith to advance back to home plate and score the only run of the game. Paiton Iliff and Brenna Homan both went 2:3 from the plate and Macie Dowd and Brooklyn McCord went 1:3, tallying the six hits the Cougars were able to muster.
The Lady Cougars will continue their USSSA Regional series with another two match-ups tomorrow (March 10th) against Washington Adventist (Md.) & W. Virginia Tech. Washington Adventist (Md.) is 3-6 overall and currently on a 1 game winning streak. Their last USSSA Regional Softball Match-up was with Florida Memorial College.
