Outdoor Opener Doesn’t Disappoint

Charlotte, NC -- The Cougar Track and Field team posted some hot times/marks down south to kick off their outdoor campaign.  While day one was soggy and started late given lightning and rain, the track remained fast as the day was highlighted with two national qualifying marks, one by senior Alex Ebetino and the other by freshman Alvin Keter, both in the 10,000 meters.  Ebetino clocked the third fastes time in USF history in route to hitting the NAIA 'A' Standard, running 36:44.95.  Keter successfully hit the NAIA "B' Standard running 31:10.16 securing his third school record over the past 3 months.

Other highlights from day one included top 10 marks in USF history in the women's 1500 meters, by freshman Kiara Bahena with her 4:49.36 mark, In field event action, Senior Madisen Hinderliter and Senior Cole Miller led the way for the squad with solid marks in the Hammer Throw, 39.68 meters and 45.25 meters respectively.

Saturday morning got off to a great start when Bahena doubled back from Friday's action with a school record performance over 800 meters, running 2:17.34!  Additionally, Hanna Boersema finished just outside the top ten in the Javelin throwing 36.28 meters, just shy of her lifetime best!

The cougars will be back in action at the IWU Polar Bear Classic on March 22 and 23rd.
