Cougars Tie No. 9 Wildcats on the Road
MARION, Ind. - The University of Saint Francis men's soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw in a tough road battle at No. 9 Indiana Wesleyan University on Saturday, October 18.
Indiana Wesleyan's Taha Houssni scored in the 31st minute with an assist from Sam Goodin, giving the Wildcats an early lead. The Cougars created several chances, taking five shots in the first half, but they were unable to score as IWU went into halftime ahead 1-0.
In the 84th minute, Nicolás Balbin equalized for Saint Francis with an unassisted strike, finding the back of the net to tie the match at 1-1. This goal marked Balbin's first of the season and capped off a strong push by the Cougars in the second half. Neither team scored again as time expired, resulting in a 1-1 tie.
Saint Francis applied pressure throughout the match, outshooting IWU 10-9 and leading in corner kicks 5-2. Goalkeeper Kevin Wachiaya Onelius recorded one save while anchoring the defense, helping to keep IWU scoreless after the break. Offensively, Paul Scheifele and Wesley Kashenje each registered a shot on goal, contributing to a balanced attack for SF.
With the win, the Cougars move to 6-8-2 overall and 4-2-1 in conference play. Saint Francis returns against Goshen College on Saturday, October 25, during Senior Day at Bishop John M. D'Arcy Stadium.
