SF Falls Short in Road Match to Lourdes
SYLVANIA, Ohio - A second-half rally for the University of Saint Francis (Ind.) men's soccer fell short as the Cougars dropped a non-conference match to Lourdes University by a final score of 3-2 on Saturday, September 6.
The Gray Wolves started strong, taking a 2-0 lead with two goals scored within a four-minute span. Kalis Weber scored in the 30th minute, followed by a goal from Murilo Lima in the 33rd minute.
In the 62nd minute, Christian Walter found the back of the net, reducing the deficit to 2-1, with Ryusei Matsushita providing the assist. The Gray Wolves answered with a goal from Jannik Hofmann at the 72:53 mark, extending their lead to 3-1. Just four minutes later, Kamaldien Imtiyaaz assisted Matsushita, bringing the Cougars within one goal at 3-2. Despite the rally, Saint Francis could not equalize, as Lourdes' defense held firm to secure the victory. With this win, the Gray Wolves improved their season record to 4-1-0.
Saint Francis outshot Lourdes 19-7, with 11 shots landing on frame for the Cougars. SF also held an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks. Imtiyaaz and Matsushita led the team with three shots on goal apiece in Saturday's match. Kevin Wachiaya Onelius played all 90 minutes in goal for Saint Francis, making one save.
Up next, Saint Francis men's soccer (1-4-0) will host Lawrence Technological University on Wednesday, September 10, for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff at Bishop John M. D'Arcy Stadium.
