Fort Wayne, Ind. - The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) men's soccer dropped a hard-fought match on Saturday, August 23, falling 1-0 to Cornerstone University at Bishop D'Arcy Stadium.
After a scoreless first half, the game's lone goal came in the 59th minute when Cornerstone's Calvin Curtis broke through with an unassisted strike. Despite generating chances throughout the contest, the Cougars could not find the equalizer.
Saint Francis held a 17-5 advantage in total shots, including a 7-1 margin in shots on goal. The Cougars also earned eight corner kicks to the Golden Eagles' three. Sophomores Paul Scheifele and Joshua Jelany both had two shots land on goal during Saturday's match. SF goalkeeper Kevin Wachiaya Onelius faced just one shot on frame but was dealt the loss.
Cornerstone goalkeeper Roberto Gutierrez proved to be the difference, collecting seven saves to preserve the shutout.
Up next, Saint Francis men's soccer (1-1-0) will head across town to Indiana Institute of Technology for a non-conference match against the Warriors on Tuesday, August 26.
