Cougars' Extend Win Streak to Five with 7-1 Victory over Holy Cross

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) men's soccer team extended its win streak to five after defeating Holy Cross College 7-1 to conclude the Cougars' non-conference schedule on Tuesday, September 17. 

Dominik Borucki headed the ball to Jai Van Lim who put it in the back right corner of the net to put the Cougars up 1-0 early in the first half of Tuesday night's game. Paul Scheifele netted a goal at 15:49 to extend USF's lead to 2-0. Borucki would score a goal of his own, assisted by Bryan Ramirez to give the Cougars a 3-0 lead at halftime. 

Saint Francis's offense continued to stay hot in the second half, with Scheifele finding the back of the net once again in the 50th minute to bring the score to 4-0 in favor of the Cougars. Less than five minutes later, Mika Leib scored the Cougars' fifth goal of the night, while Ramirez would net a goal at the 58:34 mark. The Saints would score their lone goal of the match in the 67th minute to cut USF's lead to 6-1, but in the 84th minute, Christian Walter would score his third goal of the season, assisted by Tom Hollmann and Ramirez, to secure a 7-1 victory for the Cougars.

As a team, the Cougars outshot the Saints 15-7, with nine of those landing on goal for USF. Scheifele led Saint Francis with three shots on goal, while Leib added two during Tuesday night's game. Jannik Reiss had two saves in goal for Saint Francis. 

Up next, USF men's soccer (6-3) will open Crossroads League play against Taylor University at home on September 25. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Bishop John M. D'Arcy Stadium.
