Senior Night Spoil from Michigan Cougars

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- USF played host to the Spring Arbor University (Mich.) Cougars Wednesday night for a Senior Day Match-up. The Cougars of USF honored 12 seniors total prior to the match and were able to tally a goal int he final seconds of the match to fall 2-1 to SAU.

The first 45-minutes of the match were pretty evenly matched as SAU and USF exchanged some transitional shots & possession between the two sides. At the half, the score read 0-0. SAU broke through in the 6oth minute for a 1-0 advantage, and scored again in the 66th minute for a 2-0 lead. With missed opportunities & hitting the crossbar/post multiple times, USF could not find a goal. To the Michigan Cougars dismay, a penalty kick was awarded in the final seconds of the match where Senior, Bryan Ramirez, stepped up to convert at the spot.

As a team, USF rocketed off 14 shots to SAU's 10. Jannik Reiss recorded 90-minutes and 5 saves on 7 shots on frame, allowing 2 goals. Enrique Subiran (3 shots), Bryan Ramirez (3 shots), Guilherme Girotto Franco (4shots), Afonso Sergio (2 shots), and Fabio Leschinsky (2 shots) all had chances at goal, but only finished on the one penalty kick opportunity.

USF is now 8-6-3 overall and 1-4-3 in Crossroads League play. USF will continue their regular season this Saturday on the road to compete with Mount Vernon Nazarene University (Ohio). Kick-off is set for 7pm in Mt. Vernon Ohio at CH4 Stadium. The Cougars currently sit at 7th overall and need to secure the win this Saturday to potentially shake up standings, but ensure a spot in the CL Tourney without help from other teams.
