FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The Saint Francis men's soccer team played host to the Huntington University Foresters (Ind.) in an exciting Crossroads League match-up Saturday evening. The Cougars trailed initially, but were able to compete for a 2-2 draw and 1-point in Crossroads League play.

The Cougars led in the first half 37 minutes in due to an Afonso Sergio goal in the 37th minute assisted by Henning Bundschuh's throw-in from the left flank. This was Sergio's 1st goal of the season. The Cougars were not able to hold off the Forester counter attack and conceited a goal less than 1-minute later coming from Higor Barbieri (Nathan Lemmon with the assist). At the half, the two sides were knotted up 1-1. 

Saint Francis took the lead in the 2nd half again with an Enrique Subiran goal assisted by Guilherme Girotto Franco in the 67th minute. Subiran slotted the ball through to the bottom left corner of the net from the left flank, netting his 6th goal of the season. To the Cougars dismay, a penalty kick was given up in the 88th minute of play, allowing HU's Higor Barbieri to level the score at 2 & record his 2nd goal of the match. Jannik Reiss made a game saving save within the final minute of regulation to keep the scoreline tied. Reiss tallied another 90 minutes and recorded 4 saves from 6 shots on frame. The referees had a busy match, booking 10 yellow cards in total.

Overall, USF is now 7-3-2 and 0-1-2 in Crossroads League Play. The Cougars will have a week off before returning to League play. Saint Francis (Ind.) will play host to the Bethel University (Ind.) Pilots on Saturday, September 7th for a 7pm kick-off. Bethel University (Ind.) was Head Coach Mamba Chisoni's previous school before USF. The Pilots are currently ranked #8 in the NAIA & the defending NAIA Champions. The Cougars have proved to be extremely difficult to play at home at Bishop John M. D'Arcy, so tune in for an interesting match!
