UPLAND, Ind. - The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) men's basketball picked up an 80-71 home win over Goshen College on Saturday, February 7.
Saint Francis led 36-30 at halftime and used a strong second half, shooting 50% from the field, to pull away late and secure the nine-point victory.
The Cougars controlled much of the game offensively, shooting 44.4% from the field and winning the battle inside with a 50-34 advantage in points in the paint. Saint Francis also dominated the glass, outrebounding Goshen 45-38 and grabbing 12 offensive boards that helped create second-chance opportunities. Marr Avance led the way with 18 points and six assists, while Karson Rogers added 17 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double. Braeden Messenger also recorded a double-double after finishing with16 points and 11 rebounds. Jevon Lewis chipped in 10 points and three assists to help lead the offense.
Goshen was led by Marcus Northern with 18 points, while Jacob Carlson (12 points) and Caleb Thompson (11 points) also finished in double figures.
Next up, the Cougars (9-14, 4-10 CL) travel to No. 24 Taylor University on Wednesday. In their first meeting of the season, the Trojans came away with an 84-72 victory.
