FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) men's basketball team defeated the visiting Indiana University South Bend Titans by a final score of 90-67 in the Cougars' home opener on Tuesday, November 4.
After the Titans took a 23-12 lead midway through the first half, the Cougars answered with a 15-4 run that tied the game at 27-27 with 5:08 remaining. The two teams battled back and forth, with the score at 35-34 in favor of SF. In the final minute of the half,Jevon Lewis hit a three-point shot, putting the Cougars ahead 38-34 at halftime.
Saint Francis extended its lead to 10 points, forcing an early timeout by the Titans with the score at 44-34, at the 18:01 mark of the second half. The Cougars dominated the half, outscoring Indiana South Bend 52-33 to secure the 90-67 victory on their home court. With the win, Saint Francis improves its record to 2-2 for the season.
The Cougars shot 42.9% (27-63) from the floor and 83.3% (25-30) from the free throw line on Tuesday night. Saint Francis outrebounded Indiana South Bend 43-31 while scoring 18 points off turnovers. Karson Rogers recorded his third double-double of the season with 20 points and 15 rebounds. RJ Moore and Lewis each finished with 17 points, while Marr Avance came off the bench to score 14 points. Moore also finished with a team-high three blocked shots while dishing out eight assists and pulling down nine rebounds.
Up next, Saint Francis (2-2) will travel to Michigan to compete in the Rochester Classic hosted by Rochester Christian University on November 7-8.
