HUNTINGTON, Ind. - The (RV) University of Saint Francis (Ind.) men's basketball team traveled to No. 14 Huntington University for the Crossroads League Men's Basketball Tournament Quarterfinal Round on Tuesday, February 26.
The Cougars entered the tournament as the No. 6 seed, while Huntington was the No. 3 seed. The Foresters won Tuesday's matchup with a final score of 95-83.
Luke Almodovar became the newest member of the 1,000-point club after shooting 10-16 from the field and draining four and seven three-point attempts en route to a game-high 26 points. The sophomore guard from Noblesville, Ind. has scored 593 points this season to boost his career total to 1,023 points.
The game began with USF and HU trading baskets until the Foresters scored two consecutive jump shots, taking a 21-10 lead at the 11:57 mark of the first half. The Cougars would try to claw their way back but were unable to cut the Forester's lead down as Huntington would take a 51-29 lead at halftime.
In the second half of action, the Foresters maintained their lead, outscoring Saint Francis 54-44, which secured the 95-83 victory and allowed them to advance to the Semifinals at Bethel University on Friday.
As a team, Saint Francis shot 56.3% (27-48) from the field and 55% (11-20) from three-point range. Almodovar led both teams with 26 points. Joe Reidy added 19 points and seven rebounds. Isaiah Malone finished with 17 points, nine rebounds and three blocks. Senior Zane Burke added six points and three assists.
Saint Francis men's basketball is now 17-12 on the season and awaits the seeding of the NAIA Men's Basketball Tournament. The first and second rounds of the national tournament are slated for March 14-15.
