FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) Cougars came out with a fiery attack in a highly contested match-up. The Cougars were without three starters in Charlie Yoder, Luke Almodovar, and Aaron Etherington. USF took on the Spring Arbor University Cougars at Hutzell Athletic Center in a key Crossroads League match-up. Overall, the Cougars are now 11-8 and 4-5 in the conference. They were victorious in the contest with a final score of 87-62.
USF started the game with a fast paced attack, winning at the 14-minute mark to a score of 13-2. USF point guard Branden Northern led the team in scoring with 23 points along with 11 assists to record another double-double on the season. Spring Arbor had a balanced scoring attack with three of their starters scoring double digits. Sophomore guard, Travis Grayson, led SAU with 14 points. For USF, Zane Burke added 19 points and 6 rebounds. Dorean Sanders contributed 12 points in 29 minutes. SAU drops to 15-4 (6-3) in the loss to USF.
The Cougars are back in Hutzell Athletic Center for Crossroads League play next Saturday, January 27th. USF will battle the Taylor University Trojans at 3:00 PM as they look to add another conference win at home.
