Cougars go 2-0 at Marian Classic
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) men's basketball team traveled for a 2-game weekend classic hosted at Marian University for two non-conference games. The Cougars took game one over the East West University Phantoms with a 121-63 final and prevailed in game two over the Cumberland University (Tenn.) Phoenixes 93-72.
In Game one, the Cougars shot 100% from the field for the first 6-minutes of play, and led by 33-points at the half. The win was an all-around team performance where every able-bodied player rostered earned minutes in the victory. Freshman, Luke Almodovar led in overall scoring with 21-points, 1 block, 5 assists, & 3 rebounds. Zane burke also chipped in 17 points, 1 steal, 6 assists, & 6 rebounds in the dub. Branden Northern, Charlie Yoder, Aaron Etherington, & Jackson Gowdy were all in double-digit scoring for USF as well. The bench was active in the victory with some key minutes, points, boards, and an overall commanding victory over the Phantoms.
In Game two of the weekend, USF also reigned victorious against the Phoenixes. Charlie Yoder led in overall scoring for the Cougars with 20-points, 8 rebounds, & 2 blocks. Branden Northern also had 10 assists & 2 steals to adi to the Cougar fast-break. Zane Burke followed closely behind Yoder with 18 points & Almodovar had 14. Joe Rediy and Yoder also combined for 16 rebounds (8 a-piece).
USF is now 4-2 after a 2-0 weekend in Indianapolis. The Cougars will return to Fort Wayne, Indiana for a cross-town match-up with the Indiana Tech Warriors on Wednesday November 15th.
