USF not able to take down No. 18-Ranked Huntington University

HUNTINGTON, Ind. – Men's Hoops dropped their Wednesday evening contest with the No. 18-Ranked Huntington University Foresters 78-86. The efforts did not fall short from the Cougars, but the Foresters were able to cash in on some Cougar mistakes. Zane Burke led all scorers in the contest with 24 points and 7 rebounds.

The Cougars led quite a bit in the first half behind some hot shooting and sound defense. Unfortunately for the Cougars, consistent shooting from the Foresters starting guard, Zach Goodline, did not fall short of the rim.

Trailing into the second half 41-35, the Cougars were not able to regain momentum and started to fall back on their heels defensively. USF was able to trim the deficit down to 5-points with 1:00 remaining in regulation. The downfall of the Cougars resulted in Huntington having a plethora of scorers, recording five players in the scorebook earning double digits.

Saint Francis shot 53% from the field and 77% from the foul line. The defensive effort from Brandon Northern aided the Cougars in competing with the No. 18-Ranked Foresters, tallying 5 steals & contributing 20 points. The Cougars scored 19 points from Huntington turnovers and also recorded 36 points in the paint.

Solid performances from the Cougars included Antwaan Cushingberry with 16 points and 5 assists. Dan McKeeman was 2:5 from the three-point line & recorded 38/40 minutes of the contest contributing 14 points, 2 assists, and 1 steal.

The Cougars are now 13-13 overall and 6-10 in conference play. USF will host the Lancers of Grace College on Saturday, February 11th in a doubleheader with the Lady Cougars & Lady Lancers. Tip-off is set for 3pm for the men, directly following the women's game. The Cougars lost their last matchup to Grace 72-65 at Gordon Health and Wellness Center (GHAWC). The Cougars look to snap their two-game losing skid this coming Saturday.
