Men’s Hoops Dealt a loss from the Opposing Spring Arbor Cougars

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – USF was dealt a loss on the road by the Spring Arbor University Cougars. The USF Cougars traveled to Spring Arbor, Michigan for a 3pm tip-off that ended in defeat at McDonald Athletic Center with a 67-78 final. 

Two of Spring Arbors starters finished the game off with double-doubles and could not be answered from the USF defense. The USF Cougars trailed at the half 33-36 and shot 38% from the field, but only 25% from 3-point range. The largest lead the Cougars had in the first half lasted for 1-minute and was only by 3-points. 

Points in the paint evened out in the first half at 16 for both sides, but USF was outrebounded 22:19 and gave up second chance opportunities and offensive boards. The Cougars were able to score 7 points off of turnovers and recorded 4 steals in the first half. 

Overall shooting today for the Cougars was their downfall as nothing was falling in Michigan. The team shot 38% from the field, 25% from 3-point range, and only 69% from the foul line. 

Zane Burke led scoring for the Cougars with 23 points and contributed 5 rebounds. Antwaan Cushingberry also scored 16 points and had 4 steals for the Cougars. Brandon Northern also had 10 points and 5 rebounds.

The Cougars are now 13-11 overall and 6-8 in conference. USF will travel to Huntington, Indiana to face-off with the Huntington Foresters. Tip-off is set for 7pm in Platt Arena. USF lost their last match-up with the Foresters in November 101-75.
