USF’s 2 Game Winning Streak snapped by the Taylor Trojans
UPLAND, Ind. – USF Men's Hoops could not handle the pressure from Taylor University, dropping Saturday afternoon's contest with a 66-73 final. The Cougars now drop to 5-7 in the Crossroads League and 7th in League standings.
First half shooting for the Cougars was rough as they shot 44% from the field and were 14% from 3-point range. The Trojans were 50% from 3-point range and took a 4-point lead at the half. Antwaan Cushingberry had 10-points at the half and continued to lead scoring for USF from there.
USF outshot the Trojans to begin the second half, but fell due to turnovers and missed opportunities from the foul line. Jason Hubbard of Taylor outshot all scorers tabbing a double-double dropping 32 points and 10 rebounds for the Trojans.
The Cougars shot 43% from the field and only 22% from 3-point range. The Cougars fell short at the foul line as well, shooting 78% opposed to the Trojans 95%.
Key contributors for the Cougars efforts came from Antwaan Cushingberry. Cushingberry recorded a double-double consisting of 20 points and 10 rebounds. Brandon Northern also had 13 points, 4 steals, and 2 rebounds.
The Cougars are now 12-10 overall and 5-7 in conference. USF will return home to Hutzell Athletic Center Wednesday night to host the Goshen Maple Leafs. Tip-off is set for 7pm in Fort Wayne, Indiana. USF won their last match-up in November against the Maple Leafs , 100-77.
