FORT WAYNE, Ind. - On Wednesday afternoon the University of Saint Francis Cougars (9-7; 2-4 Crossroads) started their 2023 season with a loss to Mount Vernon Nazarene with a final of 68-77.

USF started the first half strong with transitional play and second chance opportunities in the paint. Kyel Kegley of MVNU took over in the second half outrebounding all players in the contest with 19 rebounds. Brayton Bailey and Evan Lowden of USF showed their strengths throughout the second half with their offensive and defensive personnels, but it was no match for MVNU.

Game changes for Saint Francis included Antwaan Cushingberry with 27 points (most overall between the two sides), 7 rebounds, and 4 assists. Zane Burke contributed with 13 points and 3 steals. Brayton Bailey also contributed 11 points, 7 rebounds, and 1 steal.

The Cougars are now 9-7 overall and 2-4 in conference. USF will be back in action January 7th where they'll host Taylor University. Tip-off is set for 3PM in Fort Wayne, Ind. Saint Francis is 2-1 in their last three match-ups with the Taylor Trojans.
