Saint Francis Upsets No. 7 Webber International 21-12
BABSON PARK, Fla. - The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) women's flag football team defeated No. 7 Webber International University by a final score of 21-12 on Monday, March 9.
The Warriors were first to get on the scoreboard in the opening quarter, using a 10-play drive to find the end zone and take a 6-0 lead. Jianna Reyes rushed for a one-yard touchdown to put the Cougars on the board before completing the extra-point pass to begin the third quarter. Later in the period, Reyes added another rushing touchdown from seven yards out to give Saint Francis a 14-6 advantage. Webber responded with a 59-yard touchdown pass to cut the deficit to 14-12. Reyes later connected with Nina Kamma-Hill for a four-yard touchdown pass to secure the 21-12 upset victory.
The Cougars finished with 275 yards of offense, including 255 passing yards and 20 rushing yards. Reyes completed 33 of 38 pass attempts for 249 yards and one touchdown. Reyes also recorded two rushing touchdowns on 10 carries. Haylee Weatherspoon hauled in eight receptions for 89 yards, while Wilma Gardner added 13 catches for 81 yards.
Defensively, Saint Francis recorded 20 flag pulls, with Peyton Pries leading the way with eight solo tackles and a pass breakup. Madison Myers-Rebidas finished with two interceptions and two pass breakups, while Haylee Weatherspoon also added an interception.
Up next, the Cougars (3-3) will face No. 3 Warner University on March 10. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m. in Lake Wales, Florida.
