Heath Simmons & Nate Talhelm Earn MSFA Mideast Player of the Week Honors
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - After their dominating win on Saturday afternoon against the Saint Francis Fighting Saints, senior quarterback Heath Simmons has earned the MSFA Mideast League Offensive Player of the Week while junior linebacker Nate Talhelm took home the Defensive Player of the Week Honors.
Simmons is in his final year from Hartford, Kentucky where he graduated from Ohio County High School. During Saturday's victory, Simmons completed 24 of 32 passes for 260 yards in the 52-14 victory over the Fighting Saints. He also threw for three touchdowns with no interceptions in the win.
Simmons earns his first career MSFA Offensive Player of the Week award as he tries for another on Saturday when the Cougars play host to the Judson Eagles in their season home opener at Bishop D'Arcy Stadium.
In addition to Simmons, Talhelm also earns his first career MSFA Defensive Player of the Week award. A junior linebacker from Indianapolis, he registered a sack for a total loss of four yards while making a team-high 11 tackles against the Fighting Saints on Saturday.
The next game for the Cougars will be Saturday evening at home against Judson beginning at 6:00 pm.
