Saint Francis Drops Doubleheader with Spring Arbor

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) battled through a tough doubleheader against Spring Arbor University on Saturday, April 11, falling to SAU in both games to wrap up the four-game series.

SPRING ARBOR 13, SAINT FRANICS 2 - 7 INNINGS

  • Spring Arbor jumped out to an early lead, scoring three runs in the first two innings to pull ahead 6-0. 
  • SAU plated multiple runs in the fourth and seventh innings to secure a 13-2 win in the opener.
  • Saint Francis was held to five hits. Ayden Lichtensteiger and Kasen Oribello both finished with a home run and an RBI.
  • On the mound, the pitching staff combined to allow 13 runs, with Jayden Nuber recording the loss after 1.1 innings of work as the starter. Nuber, Andrew Zellers and Luke Siren combined for seven strikeouts. 

SPRING ARBOR 11, SAINT FRANCIS 4 - 7 INNINGS

  • After SAU grabbed an early 3-0 lead in the first two innings of game two, the SF Cougars drove in a run to cut the deficit to two in the bottom of the third
  • Saint Francis was unable to overcome a big fifth inning from Spring Arbor, as SAU secured the 11-4 win. 
  • The Cougars broke things open with an eight-run inning, putting Saint Francis in an early hole. Despite that, the Cougars responded late with a three-run seventh to cut into the deficit.
  • SF recorded six hits and four walks in game two. Lichtensteiger had a double and an RBI, while Oribello, Jordan Davis and Zavier Edgar also drove in runs. Jack Belschner added a hit, a stolen base and a run scored. 
  • Dawson French was credited with the loss on the mound, striking out three batters and allowing five hits in 4.1 innings pitched. 

Up next, Saint Francis ( 13-28, 11-17 CL) will travel to the University of Northwestern Ohio for a non-league game against the Racers on Wednesday, April 15.
