FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) baseball team earned a four-game sweep over Crossroads League opponent Grace College on March 20-21. The Cougars won game one 20-3 before walking off with game two 2-1. On Saturday, SF picked up a 7-6 game one win before taking game two 8-4.
SAINT FRANCIS 20, GRACE 3 - 7 INNINGS
- Saint Francis exploded offensively in the opener, cruising to a dominant 20–3 victory behind a massive middle-inning surge.
- After a quiet start, the Cougars broke things wide open with a 10-run inning that put the game out of reach.
- The Cougars recorded five hits and 14 walks in game one. Cole Kintz hit 2-4 with a double, three RBI and three runs scored. Kasen Oribello finished with a home run, three RBI and three runs scored. Jordan Davis and Ashten Tuttle both had extra-base hits while combining for three RBI. Ayden Lichtensteiger, Andrew Zellers, and Payton Fulton drove in multiple runs for the Cougars.
- On the mound, Perry Stow threw a complete game, striking out 10 batters while holding Grace to two earned runs and seven hits
SAINT FRANCIS 2, GRACE 1 - 7 INNINGS
- Game two turned into a pitcher's duel, with Saint Francis grinding out a 2–1 win to complete the sweep of the doubleheader.
- The Cougars were held to three hits in game two. Zellers finished with a triple and an RBI. Davis had a walk-off double that drove in the winning run.
- Curtis Ellis got the start on the mound, allowing just one hit while striking out seven batters in 5.0 innings pitched. Bryce Adams was credited with the win after throwing 2.0 innings of relief.
SAINT FRANCIS 7, GRACE 5
- The Cougars used a balanced offensive attack and timely hitting to outlast Grace in Saturday's first game. Saint Francis plated runs in multiple innings, including a key surge in the 5th to take control.
- The Cougars finished with six hits and six walks. Fulton went 2-5 with a double, two stolen bases and an RBI. Lichtensteiger had a homer and three RBI. Zellers and Kintz drove in a run each. Zellers, Owen Zimmerman, and Xavier Gonsalves combined for five stolen bases.
- Jayden Nuber threw 5.0 innings on the mound for SF, striking out six batters and giving up four hits and two earned runs. Andrew Onuegbu was credited with the win, while Luke Siren earned the save.
SAINT FRANCIS 8, GRACE 4 - 7 INNINGS
- The Cougars came out hot in Game 2, scoring 6 runs in the first inning to take control of game four.
- Saint Francis held off Grace for the 8-4 win and four-game series sweep.
- SF finished with four hits and eight walks in Saturday's second game. Jack Belschner went 2-2 at the plate with a double, two runs scored and an RBI. Lichtensteiger finished with a double and three RBI, while Zavier Edgar also had an extra-base hit and an RBI. Fulton and Gage Blanchard also drove in a run each.
- On the mound, Dawson French got the win after throwing 6.0 innings, recording seven strikeouts and allowing three hits.
Up next, SF baseball (9-19, 7-9 CL) will travel to No. 16 Huntington University for a four-game league series on March 27-28.
